Oops! Whether it is some egg nog, a bit of wine, or a piece of chocolate cake, whatever is not supposed to get on your carpet and furniture always does, especially after a big festive Christmas party you just hosted. Follow these tips carefully to remove egg nog, wine, chocolate, and coffee stains with precision.

Egg Nog:

If you notice an egg nog spill on your rug, you should act quickly. Most spills can be fully removed if immediate action is taken. The longer you wait to clean, the harder it will be to remove. All you need is to apply a fabric or carpet stain remover on a dry, white absorbent cloth or paper towel. Once done, scrape up the left semi-solid residue with a spoon. Finish the job with a good vacuuming job. Do not scrub the area because it can cause pile distortion in the affected area.  If you notice the eggnog stain the next day, consider a carpet cleaner.  Eggnog is full of dairy products, eggs and sugar.  When dairy and egg start to decay, they can smell considerably foul.

Red Wine:

If someone from your party spills red wine on the carpet, immediately pour white wine over the spill to neutralize it. Spring the spill with salt and cover with a damp white towel. Later on, press down on the red wine stain with a dry white cloth until the carpet is cleaned.  If you notice the stain the next morning, your best option might be to call a professional cleaner, simply because you might cause more harm than good trying to get this difficult type of stain out.

White Wine:

White wine is easy to clean. Simply pour some cold water or some sparkling water and dry with a clean towel.  If you don’t get to it right away, it will cause some off-colouring, which may require the services of a professional cleaner.

Chocolates:

When chocolate settles on an unwashable fabric, such as carpets or furniture, it’s a good idea to wait until it dries and then gently lift the chocolate from the fabric. To clean the stain, blot it with a damp sponge with a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Try not to flood the area and dab gently until the stain is invisible. Then, softly scrub the area with clean water to rinse and pat it dry with a white clean cloth.

Coffee:

You’ve just come across a spot of coffee on your new couch or carpet. Acting fast can help remove that coffee stain(s) in minutes. For carpet, simply mix one teaspoon of mild dish detergent with 500ml of water. Blot the detergent mix directly onto the coffee stain and then pat with a clean cloth to dry the stain and liquid. If the coffee stain is still not removed, try a mix of water and white vinegar and repeat previously mentioned steps.

For removing coffee stains off your furniture, combine one tablespoon of liquid hand washing detergent with two cups of cold water. Apply the mixture onto the coffee stain using a clean white cloth. Blot thoroughly until the coffee stain disappears.
